2021 Walking Festival

28 May 2021

Join poet and author Helen Mort on a walk with your best friend – your dog!

Join poet and author Helen Mort on a walk with your best friend – your dog!

Helen is a keen climber and mountaineer and her new book explores that very special relationship between dogs, mountains and the people who love them. Along the way, she meets search and rescue dogs, interviews climbers and spends time on the hills with hounds.

The book is also a personal memoir, telling the author's own story of falling in love with a whippet called Bell during a transformative year in the Lake District. Never Leave the Dog Behind is a compelling account of mountain adventures, capturing the unbridled joy of heading to the hills with a four-legged friend.

Location:  Meet outside Darley Abbey Village Hall (DE22 1DS), which is located off New Road. There is a small car park at the hall and a larger car park on Darley Street opposite the Abbey pub (about 2 minutes walk from the Hall). The walk in Darley Park is approximately 1.5k and will start and end at the hall. Book sales and book signing will take place at the hall after the walk ends.

Time: 2pm-3pm

Cost: £7
